POWERPOINT HELP
VIDEO CLIP TIP: If the video plays on your computer but doesn’t show on the screen, try turning off your computer screen.
To toggle between the external projector and the computer screen you usually use the “fn” key combined with an “Fx” key
(differs by computer – look for a key that seems to have two screen icons).
SAVING A POWERPOINT FILE TO YOUR COMPUTER: To save a PowerPoint file to your computer, click on the link to open it
from the web page. It may take a long time to open because the file might be very large. Once it is open, go to "File" and
"Save as" and then save it to your computer with a different name. If this file has related video clips as most of the PDS
files do, you must save it to your computer in the same folder that the video clips are located. Otherwise the clips will not
be linked to the PowerPoint file.
REFRESHING VIDEO CLIP LINKS: If a video clip does not work in slide show view, you may need to redo the link in the
PowerPoint file. Exit slide show view and right-click on the item that is supposed to be a hyperlink. Choose "edit hyperlink"
and then click on the video clip that is supposed to be linked to that item. Save the PowerPoint file and the link should be
restored.
WHY DOES IT TAKE SO LONG TO SAVE THE FILES?: All of the PDS PowerPoint files have the fonts embedded in the file. This
is done so that if your computer doesn't happen to have all the fonts that have been used in the presentation, the fonts will
come with the file. If this was not done your computer would choose what fonts to replace ones it did not have and the
layout of some slides would be messed up.
